Overhead and Gantry Crane Safety

Upon completion of this learning event, crane operators, riggers and general floor employees will demonstrate knowledge of the basics of overhead and gantry crane safety. Employees will learn how to identify the differences between overhead and gantry cranes, how to recognize overhead and gantry crane hazards, and crane related safe work practices. This course is intended to assist the employer in meeting OSHA Standard 29 CFR 1910.179. In addition to this course, the employer might consider the Overhead Crane Safety – Hand Signals course, Materials Handling and Storage course, and the Powered Industrial Truck Safety course also known as the Forklift course.

Introduction and objectives
Identify overhead and gantry crane hazards
Differentiate between overhead and gantry crane and identify types of crane inspections
Recognize and describe safe work practices and prohibited activities
Identify and describe specific safe work practices for different crane attachments
